Forklift training — info & FAQs

Counterbalance and warehouse lift-truck training basics: who needs it, course length, and booking direct.

5 min read

Forklift (lift truck) training is separate from HGV licensing but often useful for yard, warehouse, and some logistics roles. Novice and experienced operator courses differ.

FAQs

What does forklift training cover?

Safe operation of the truck type you train on (e.g. counterbalance), pre-use checks, stability, load handling, and workplace rules. Certification is usually to a recognised scheme your employer accepts.

How long does it take?

Novice courses are often around 3–5 days; experienced operator or refresher courses are shorter. Dates depend on the centre.

Is a forklift certificate the same as an HGV licence?

No. Forklift training does not replace Category C / C+E. Many drivers hold both for yard flexibility.

How should I book?

Choose a reputable local centre, confirm the truck category, and book direct. LearnHGV lists providers that offer forklift among other courses.
